Q: Can I get a good working PC for less then $500.00?

The current decline in prices for computers definitely makes finding an efficient yet capable system possible. One reminder: you get what you pay for! I highly recommend researching reviews written by people who have purchased a system similar to that you are considering. Hint: Computer prices are often directly linked to the quality of the hardware and software that has been installed. Also, many systems come with a two to three year warranty, which can be reduced to one year if you want to save money in the short run. In most cases, you have the option of renewing the service agreement, if necessary, at the end of the original agreement.

Q: What should I do if my hard drive makes strange noises?

Q: What should I do if my PC won't boot up?

1. Check to see if the computer is plugged into the power source.

Spyware and Viruses

Q: How does spyware get into my system?

Spyware get into you system due to a combination of the following three reasons:

1. poor security.
2. Downloading free software without regard for the security and integrity of your system.
3. Visiting questionable web sites and opening dubious email messages.

Q: What is the best way to get rid of spyware?

Getting rid of spyware can be a time consuming and expensive endeavor. If time and money is an issue, I recommend the following three steps:

1. Download and install Microsoft Windows Defender and check for spyware. If this process takes more than 60 minutes, move to step 2.

2. Disconnect your computer from the Internet (unplug your cable from the computer, or the telephone line from your modem), and contact VMS IT Consulting.

3. Take the road less traveled. Perform a full system restore and set the appropriate security. Take this steop only if you really know what you are doing!

Q: What can I do if my system is getting slower?

Check your computer system for spyware. See the above question for instructions.

Q: How can I check to see if I have a virus if I don't have a virus program installed?

Go to Symantec's or McAfee's website and use their online virus checker.

Q: How do I share my cable/DSL internet connection?

Purchase an Internet broadband router. Depending on your needs, you can get a basic router or a wireless broadband router. Contact VMS IT Consulting for recommendations or installation support.

Payment Issues

Q: Do you accept credit cards?

All major credit cards are accepted at VMS IT Consulting, including Visa, Master Card, Discover, and American Express.

Q: Do you offer free estimates?

Free estimates are limited to phone and email support. Onsite support requires a one hour minimum charge, as per our pricing policy. Click here to see our pricing policy.

Q: Do you accept check payment?

Checks are accepted as long as they are secured by a credit card. Your credit card will be billed for the amount due plus a $30.00 fee, if the check does not clear. See our credit policy.

Q: Do I get charged if I cancel my service call or fail to show up on time?

Same day or emergency service requests cancelled less than two hours in advance will be billed for the first hour. This applies to both home and business requests. If you fail to show up for an appointment (we will wait 20 minutes), you will be billed for the first hour.

Q: Do you offer technical support service contracts?

Service contracts are available to both business and home users. Please contact us or submit a request for more information.
